Chris, Adam and Mark - fundraising $42,195 from Adelaide to London...

Held annually since April 1981, the London Marathon is one of the five major International Marathons and it ranks alongside Boston, New York, Berlin and Chicago as an outstanding event known for its size, scenery and memorable atmosphere. The experience of running 42.2 km with more than 30 000 other people is said to be unparalleled and the encouragement delivered by the half-a-million spectators all packed into the London city centre only adds to that epic ambience.

Whilst it is a real privilege to be able to run in the illustrious London Marathon, entrants can also tackle the additional challenge of raising money for a charity in the lead up to the race. In fact, philanthropic fundraising is a well established aspect of the London Marathon; in 2006 alone, participants raised over $90 million dollars for charity.

London Marathon Start

Each year, the Heart Foundation of Australia selects eight individuals from around the country who are up to the challenge of fundraising $12 500 each to contribute towards the vital research, training and public awareness activity that the Heart Foundation carries out. Drawn together by a unusual passion for running long distances on boring tarmac roads, Chris, Adam and Mark volunteered for the additional task of raising money as part of their preparations for the London Marathon.

Their goal is to raise $42, 195; one dollar for every metre of the Marathon. They are just over half way towards that fundraising target and they would appreciate any contribution you could make towards the Heart Foundation’s vital work in saving lives and preventing heart disease.
